SATIRE – but based on a true story!
Brian had promised his wife an expansive expensive holiday somewhere really expensive.
He’d been saving for 3 years and during this time he and his wife had been working hard doing the cleaning at the slate mining factory as well as evening jobs in the evenings.
Having spent a few weeks looking at holidays on the interweb, Brian and his wife Tracy found their dream holiday. The irony was that their dream holiday really was going to be a dream holiday!
Brain’s debit card didn’t work. Convinced it was an error with the website he tried calling to make payment over the phone.
Following an argument, Brian ate humble pie. It transpired that he’d just spend £6,000 which is why his card didn’t work.
You see 3 years ago, Brian bought? a car on Hire Purchase (HP) with the ‘option’ to just give it back at the end of the one sided agreement.
He forgot to give it back.
Simple mistake. We all forget things from time to time.
He’s also forgotten to tell the HP company that he’d changed address. Therefore he’s not received their reminder (singular).

Instead a surprise debit of £6,000 occurred.

Jane* was driving home from the pub again like she did most evenings. The police saw she’d left a pub and decided to pull her over to see if she’d been drinking, alcohol.
To their delight they discovered not only was she completely sober, but her 4 year old BMW had No Insurance, No Tax, No MOT and 1 rear brake light.
She thought they were drunk, but it turns out that her husband kept meaning to sort that stuff out … but was too busy writing letters of complaint about the ink on his printer running out when he’d hardly used it.
If you have trusted your spouse to MOT, Tax and Insure your car for you, there’s a very slim chance that they’ve completely forgotten, can’t be bothered, or asked their mum to do it – who also forgot.
It’s reasonably forgivable in today’s world of limited free time, corporate stupidity and masses of dull and boring paperwork to deal with.
But the consequences are diabolical and unsympathetic.
Jane experienced a morning in court, 6 points on her license, increased insurance premiums (although she’s made nominal savings prior), prosecution (which makes getting a UK passport a bit more tricky) and a GBH charge following a ‘discussion’ with her husband.
